How to merge and split PDF files: a practical guide
Application packages, invoices, scanned pages and reports often arrive as many separate files, or as one huge file when you only need a part. Merging and splitting PDFs solves both problems in a couple of minutes.
When merging helps
- You must send one file instead of several attachments, such as a form, a copy of an ID and a certificate.
- A multi-page document was scanned in several parts.
- You want to keep related invoices or contracts together.
How to merge
- Open Merge PDF and add your files.
- Put them in the right order using the arrows.
- Press Merge and download the single PDF.
Tip: if you name your files with numbers, such as 1-application and 2-passport, you can see at a glance whether the order is right.
When splitting helps
- You need to send only a few pages of a long document.
- A single scan contains several separate documents.
- The file is too large for a form and you want to send it in parts.
With Split PDF you cut a document into parts, and with Extract pages you take only the pages you need.
What to check afterwards
- Pages may be turned the wrong way. Fix them with Rotate PDF.
- Scans sometimes include empty pages. Remove blank pages finds them.
- A long merged file is easier to read with page numbers.
- If the result is too big to send, compress it with Compress PDF.
